I bought this item to replace the first one I had, as I had lost the transparent lid somehow. Don't do this - the trap won't work without a transparent lid, because it's the light that draws them upwards and into the trap.
It's a truly remarkable product, and I would recommend this over the larger trap. The larger trap smells unpleasant (smell from the small one isn't a big deal). The bigger one actually puts off a strong enough smell to attract more flies from the area onto your property. The small one does an amazing job. I put mine together about a week ago and there are already 50-100 dead flies. Good riddance.
